Conference Area

The conference area – located at the Reed Messe Wien, Messeplatz 1 – is the main site of IAC 2010.

MSF’s booth (Hall B, booth 442) provides updated information on topics such as decentralised treatment in rural areas, co-infection with HIV and tuberculosis, prevention of mother-to-child transmission as well as its successes with shifting tasks from medical to non-medical staff to expand support.

Conference participants have the opportunity to speak with MSF experts from all over the world and also to see two impressive photography exhibitions.

MSF delegates are also in various venues throughout the conference area presenting abstracts and participating in different workshops and sessions, many hosted by MSF. For a complete listing of MSF participation at this year’s IAC, please check our Events schedule.

Access to the conference area is limited to registered participants of IAC 2010 only. You can find more information on registration on the official International AIDS Conference website at www.aids2010.org.

Global Village

The Global Village – located next to the conference area within the Reed Messe Wien – promotes networking between all stakeholders; north, south, east and west, and provides a space for displays, discussions and performances from around the world.

The Global Village is open to the general public and conference delegates and admission is free.

MSF, through its various meeting points and activities within the Global Village, calls for donors to recommit to funding the scale-up of AIDS treatment, and not to reverse a decade of successful treatment, a worrying trend that MSF has documented in two recent reports: No Time to Quit (PDF) and Punishing Success (PDF).

In the “Push for Access!” MSF Networking zone (Hall A, booth 821), people have the opportunity to speak with humanitarian aid workers working in MSF’s HIV/AIDS projects, and gain a better understanding of the current situation through photography exhibitions, videos and other multimedia displays.

In addition, a rebuilt treatment centre (Hall A, booth 698) located opposite the Networking zone offers visitors the opportunity to experience first-hand how HIV counselling sessions, consultations and the distribution of drugs work in MSF field programmes.

Side events, such as the concerts given by Bholoja, a well-known Swazi singer and musician committed to the fight against HIV/AIDS, as well as the projection of ‘The Positive Ladies Soccer Club”, a short film made by MSF about a group of HIV-positive women in Zimbabwe who decide to form a soccer team to fight the negative stigma associated with being HIV-positive.
